Recovery words
When you sign up, the market gives you a recovery phrase. It is the only way back into an account whose password is lost, which makes it both valuable and dangerous.
Store it right
- Write it on paper and keep it offline, away from the machine you log in from.
- Do not photograph it, do not put it in cloud notes, and do not paste it into any web page.
- If you keep it in a password manager, keep that database offline and encrypted.
This is the important part
No real login, and no honest support, ever asks for your recovery words. The phrase gets an account back. It is never needed to sign in normally. Anyone who asks for it is trying to take the account.Updated 2026-07-14 · Security
